Top Ten Tuesday: Top Five Underrated Contemporary Books

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme by The Broke and the Bookish. Want to participate? Head over to their blog and find out how it works! I switched it up a bit and picked underrated contemporaries in general, instead of just Young Adult. The list only has 5 items because of lack of time (Tuesday is officially over, oops). In no particular order:

1. One Day by David Nicholls

Some people seem to loathe this book, but I love it. It's one of my favorite books to day because it's realistic and raw, but still very romantic.

2. Easy by Tamara Webber
This one is very cute, but also the important issue of rape and rape culture. Not sure if it's underrated perse, but oh well.

3. Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro
I feel like this is a really misunderstood book and that many people don't really get its beauty. People seem to either love it or hate it, and I just wish this one wouldn't be so underrated because of it. The plot, characters and writing are very unique. This wasn't nominated for a Booker Prize for nothing!

4. Atonement by Ian McEwan
By now it's no secret that I love McEwan's writing. Which is why it kills me to see Atonement get such low ratings. Truly though, it's really underrated and actually very good.

5. The Cuckoo's Calling by Robert Galbraith
True enough this is a genre that you either like or don't, but if you're into mystery/thriller, give this one a shot! You might do so because it's J.K. Rowling who wrote it, or simply because in itself is really enjoyable (according to me anyway)
